The tangy, refreshing taste is perfect for a wake-up first thing in the morning, or whenever you need a little boost. Plus, it’s caffeine-free!
Why We Love Lemon Water
You might have heard some wild claims about how a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning will cure the world’s diseases and turn you into a sculpted Adonis. While not all these claims are quite factual, that doesn’t mean there aren’t still some benefits to drinking lemon water.
Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant, but lower in sugar than other high Vit-C fruits like oranges. They also contain flavonoids, which help to support the immune system, as well as fighting inflammation. Some people also believe that lemon water can help to kick-start the metabolism first thing in the morning.
The citric acid in lemons is thought to be beneficial to kidney health, which is also helped by the water. While it might sound obvious, lemon water helps to hydrate the body, without the diuretic effects of coffee. Proper hydration is vital to aiding in digestive health, maintaining focus, and improving athletic performance. All that adds up to a pretty tasty, cheap, and healthy way to start the day!
Turmeric: The Wonder Root
To keep it brief, turmeric has been used as a detoxer, pain-reliever, and anti-inflammatory in traditional medicine for centuries, and nowadays, studies have shown that curcumin, the active compound, does indeed had anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, anti-bacterial and immunity-modulatory effects. It is especially effective at maintaining joint health and mobility and managing the effects of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
The new Organic Lemon-Turmeric Daily Boost joins our two existing Daily Boost flavors: Mixed Berry and Mocha. Like these other flavors, we believe it’s tasty enough to take both on its own and as part of a balanced breakfast recipe.
Makes 2 large cups
1-inch piece of fresh turmeric, peeled and thinly sliced
—OR 2 heaped teaspoons dried powdered turmeric
Juice of 1 lemon, plus slices to serve
2 ½ cups water
6 pumps Organic Lemon- Turmeric Daily Boost
Agave syrup, to taste
- Add the lemon juice, water, and turmeric to a pot and bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, until it has turned a rich, golden color.
- Pour through a strainer into two cups. Add the Organic Lemon-Turmeric Daily Boost and a slice of lemon to each. Add agave syrup to taste if you prefer your drink to be sweeter, and enjoy.
This recipe is also delicious cold: simply strain the tea, allow it to cool, and either keep in the fridge for up to two days or serve immediately over ice.
