How Full Spectrum Hemp Outperforms CBD Isolate

A synergistic path to extracting the most benefit from the hemp plant.

We’ve written about how cannabidiol can fight inflammation and ease anxiety. And it deserves the praise. It’s one the first non-psychoactive cannabinoids shown in studies to alleviate pain and ease epileptic seizures. CBD isolate—purified CBD extracted from hemp—helped bring attention to cannabidiol use as a natural remedy. However, while early studies used CBD isolate to hone in on specific benefits, further research has found that full-spectrum hemp oil has more therapeutic benefits than isolate.

CBD isolate, as the name suggests, is purified and isolated Cannabidiol taken from the hemp plant to remove the other cannabinoids. The benefit of CBD isolate is that it can definitively be THC free. Whereas, full spectrum hemp oil may contain trace amounts of THC (no more that 0.3% THC to be considered legal).

Full-spectrum hemp oil contains several cannabinoids beyond the widely known THC and CBD. There are more than 100, but research into them has revealed Cannabigerol (CBG) and Cannabichromene (CBC) offer a bevy of benefits.

When taken together, the interaction of all these cannabinoids and other natural compounds found in the plant compliment each other and increase their benefits. A 1998 landmark study at The Lautenberg Center for General and Tumor Immunology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem called this phenomenon the entourage effect. More recently, a 2015 study on mice found that lower doses of full-spectrum CBD provided more anti-inflammatory relief than higher doses of isolated CBD.

For athletes, countering inflammation with CBD is an increasingly popular strategy for recovery and relief from nagging injuries. It also helps that cannabidiol is a natural product, unlike ibuprofen or addictive painkiller opiates many use for treating long-term ailments.

Beyond cannabinoids, full-spectrum hemp oil includes several vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, and terpenes that work collectively to aid in absorption. The fats aid in absorption since hemp is fat-soluble, and research shows that terpenoids, which produce plant odors and colorings, can work in combination with cannabinoids to improve therapeutic effects.

The synergy among the cannabinoids and other compounds to boost the absorption of active ingredients is a lot like powerful pairings of whole foods. Certain food combinations, like beans and rice, or tomatoes and olive oil, increase nutrient absorption. That cumulative effect is something PurePower already incorporates in its supplement products, which include mixtures of non-hemp natural ingredients like turmeric and cordyceps.

PurePower takes a holistic approach to unlocking performance and boosting everyday health, which is why we recommend our Full Spectrum Performance CBD™ oil to tap into the full potential of the plant and the body.

Not all full-spectrum hemp oils are equal. PurePower uses only U.S.-grown hemp and uses a proprietary vapor extraction process to extract the full spectrum of nutrient-rich phytocompounds—without the use of harsh solvents or chemicals. These compounds work in harmony with the body and its endocannabinoid system unlike individual isolated adaptogens, and we believe that elevates our Performance CBD™.

While full-spectrum hemp oils offer the broadest benefits, some oils on the market don’t deliver on their promise. Just as legal restrictions curtail hemp curtail research into its benefits, there is no centralized oversight of companies that sell cannabidiol. For transparency, PurePower uses an independent lab to test its products for potency, purity, and consistency.
