Does CBD Oil Help with Anxiety?

In this post, we will explore what anxiety feels like in the body and how CBD Oil may help alleviate many anxiety-related symptoms.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety can be summed up as restlessness and excessive worry, and it is a serious issue and a complex disorder. It’s more than just day-to-day stress. It can be debilitating and exhausting for those suffering with it and the people around them. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, anxiety disorders affect 19% of adults in the U.S. in any given year. Nonetheless, there is hope. Anxiety, fortunately, is highly treatable.

What Does Anxiety Feel Like?

Heart racing, palms sweating, stomach feeling like a cement mixer. That’s just some of the symptoms of being stressed. Struggling with anxiety, in reality, is stress symptoms plus much worse. Anxiety, when not managed properly, can be detrimental to our health, happiness, and success.

Some patients have described anxiety as compounding fear, panic, shaking or trembling, and chronic fatigue.

The pharmaceutical industry has come up with a wide range of medications, but they can come with serious side effects. These include dizziness, nausea, and brain fog. In recent years, evidence suggests that CBD has powerful anti-anxiety properties, without negative side effects.

CBD Oil and Anxiety

CBD, when administered properly, may be beneficial to treat a number of anxiety-related disorders, including: panic disorder, social phobia, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

So, how does it work?

In preclinical studies, CBD appeared to boost signaling through the brain’s serotonin receptors. This ability is similar to how pharmaceutical medications work, like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) including Prozac and Zoloft.

The difference, however, is that SSRIs come with certain unfavorable side effects, such as insomnia, pain, dizziness, and nausea or vomiting. CBD has yet to be proven to have any negative side effects.

An animal study using mice found repeated administration of CBD might help the hippocampus regenerate neurons. This process is called neurogenesis and can be useful for treating anxiety. In recent years, researchers started studying CBD’s treatment of anxiety in humans, and many have concluded that CBD significantly reduces anxiety and cognitive impairment.

CBD oil also has plenty of effects that indirectly affect anxiety as well. CBD has been proven to help patients with insomnia by helping them get better rest. Improved sleep increases the body’s ability to handle stress. CBD also promotes healthy appetite, reduces inflammation in the body, and promotes homeostasis. All of which create a feeling of wellness, which affects your mood and state of being.

Managing Anxiety

There is no miracle cure for anxiety. There’s also no guarantee that it will magically go away forever. It’s important to keep a realistic mindset. Truly, it’s about maintaining a healthy lifestyle that can prevent outbreaks and soothes anxiety-related symptoms.

Eat a healthy diet and cut down on caffeine and alcohol. Exercise regularly engaging in a physical activity that you love. No one said you have to hate exercise. If you enjoy walking, get out there and walk. If you enjoy yoga, find a studio near you.

You don’t need to lift weights or get super fit at a gym. But, you should exercise every day. Besides, exercise will help you get better rest, and lack of sleep is directly connected to anxiety in the body.
